It’s all the rage right now you know. Camper renovations. Take an old camper that needs some love, put your own stamp on it, and create something amazing, right? It DOES sound awesome, and because we have a lot of used RVs on our lot, we know people come here to get started on their plans to renovate a camper. If you think a camper renovation is for you, then ask yourself these three questions.
What’s my Skill Level?
Do you have zero experience renovating anything? Then start with something simple. Perhaps you find a great used teardrop camper that really just needs more cosmetic work than anything. The wiring is all good, so you don’t have to fool with that, but maybe it needs a great scrubbing, some new cushions, and a paint job.
I love this set of photos (at the top) from @robyndeeds (on instagram) You can even renovate a pop-up tent camper!
On the other hand, if you feel confident in your abilities, take on a bigger project. Replace cabinet doors, blinds, even change out the style of bed or bunks in your used RV. The possibilities really are just based on the level of work you feel comfortable doing!
2. How much do I want to spend?
This is just like you’re on an episode of “Hometown” and you have to think about your all-in budget. What will those renovations cost? Get some estimates, talk to the RV sales and service guys, head to the local hardware store, etc. Do some research, get your numbers down, and then use that as a guide. What is your ALL IN budget on both the RV and the renovations?
This mega-renovation is the next one on the list for the @Wisco_Flip crew. It’s function as-is, but it’s outdated and the wood feels heavy. We can’t wait to see what they do with it!
3. What do I want my RV to be?
If you’ve decided to renovate an RV, it’s time to think about what you want that RV to be. It’s it a rolling office? Is it a total vacation playground with all the bells and whistles? Is it a refuge for two? Consider all the material items you want in your RV and consider the feelings you want that RV to evoke for you and those using it.
At the end of the day, your RV needs to reflect you and your lifestyle. We’ve got so many great used campers on the lot right now. Stop in and find the one that’s perfect for your project!
